School admission and free school meal applications are submitted through this online Parent Portal.
There are two types of school admission applications Year of Entry/Round applications and In Year applications.
We would advise parents/carers to read the Guide for Parents, and consult the Interactive Catchment Area Map
Submitting an admissions application
Please be aware that an application may only be submitted by someone who has parental responsibility for the child. If responsibility is shared we require agreement from both parties.
To make an application for a school place you need to either create a new account or log on to an existing account. You do this at the top left hand side of this page. Please ensure that you remember your username and password as you will require this for future log ins. Year of Entry/Annual Round applications are made when a child is starting key educational points, when a child is starting primary school, when a child is moving from an infant to a junior school and when a child is leaving primary school to start secondary school. Only persons resident in York and with parental responsibility for a child may apply for a school for that child via this portal.
Here are the relevant dates for applying for a Year of Entry application. The application process begins the September of the previous school year.
Find out your allocated school for Year of Entry/Annual Round applicationsIf you wish to find out your child’s allocated school on National Offer Day please Sign In. You will require your username (email address) and password.
In Year applications are made when a child has already started school and when a move is required during the school year. Please note we are unable to accept applications for places more than 20 school days in advance of the place being required. If you are applying for an 'in year' place from September 2022, applications can be made no earlier than 27 June 2022. You may apply for a place for your child via this portal if you are resident in the City of York or if you live elsewhere provided that you have parental responsibility for the child. You will be given the opportunity to enter your future address when making your application. If you are applying for schools that are not in the York area because you are moving to a new area, you may need to contact us in order to ensure the schools you are requesting are available for you to select on the portal.
Apply for free school mealsIf you wish to apply for free school meals for your child please sign in at the top left of this page. You will require your username (email address) and password. If you have not used Parent Portal before you must create an account above. For further information about free school meals including eligibility please go to our website here.
